Our Pre-School Day

When the children first arrive, they hang up their towels on their own special coat peg, put their bookbags in the box provided and put their drinks on the table.  The children are then shown to the name board where they move their name to show that they are at pre-school.

Pre-school facilities enable us to provide a wide range of activities for the children to enjoy.  Toys and activities are rotated so the children get a varied choice. They can make many choices for themselves.

There is always a crafts table where the children can make, paint and create their own masterpieces which are displayed and then can be taken home to treasure; a mark making table for their drawing and writing, and a play dough table.

The children's imaginations can run riot in our home corner - it has been a huge number of things from a picnic area to a space ship.  There are always building toys for the children to play with, along with slides and rockers for them to enjoy in the physical area. We have a large selection of jigsaws, books, dolls, construction toys, dressing up clothes, etc for the children to play with.

We have an outside area for the children to use all the year round on a free-flow basis. We ask that parents bring in a hat for their child and apply sun cream for hot days, and wellies, coat, hat etc for when it's colder.

Snack time starts about 9.30am, where the children come up and eat when they are ready. (The snack bar stays open until all children have had something to eat.)  The children wash their hands, then collect their plate and cup. Milk or water is offered to drink, along with fruit and a savoury snack.   A menu for snack time is displayed on a notice board in the foyer. Once each child has finished their snack they can go off and play or finish off whatever they were in the middle of doing!

On birthdays we encourage parents to bring in a birthday cake (with candles) and we all sing Happy Birthday.

Towards the end of the morning's activities we encourage the children to help tidy up, especially the floor activities. This allows us to enjoy music, dancing and movement activities.

Children are encouraged to bring in things from home for Show and Tell Time.

For the children who stay until 1pm, they bring in their own packed lunch.  This is eaten at 12.30pm.  Many parents have found that this really helps the children when they start school.

It is then time to put coats on and collect pictures, and after a short goodbye song it is time to go home.

We encourage an atmosphere of caring for one another and although disagreements do occur we can usually solve the problem and end with a cuddle.

We ask all children to bring along a small hand towel (named) in a bag and a complete change of clothes as spillages, accidents and over enthusiastic water play do occur.

Seasonal Activities

Many activities happen during the school year. The summer term brings our annual sports morning with fun races for all the children, (Mums, dads, grandmas, grandads and even the staff). We also like to have a summer outing and have visited many places.

Christmas brings the show-stopping Christmas Concert. We also have a Christmas party where the bearded gentleman is guest of honour.

At Easter children are invited to take part in the Easter Egg Hunt and Bonnet Parade. Each term ends with a party for all the children.

When your child's time comes to start Primary School we mark this occasion with a graduation ceremony.
