Marham Village Pre-School Nursery Curriculum
Aims for development
Listed below is Marham Village Pre-School's Nursery Curriculum, which follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, outlining its aims for children's development and the forms they take.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
To encourage independence, self-respect and good relationships with other children and adults by integration into activities provided. For example, sand play, home corner, play dough, construction toys, story time, music time, games puzzles etc. To develop an understanding of right and wrong and be aware of the feelings of other children and adults through news and story time, nature walks and observation.
Communication, Language and Literacy
To encourage children to talk about their experiences, to listen to children and adults talking, reading stories and poems and also to listen and learn simple songs, nursery rhymes and stories. To encourage children to enjoy books and to handle them with care. To encourage parents and children to use and read books together of different kinds, e.g. stories, informative, references etc obtained from libraries and book clubs. To begin to recognise labels, names and simple words relevant to children. To draw, crayon and paint to communicate meaning.
Physical Development
To encourage confidence, control, co-ordination and awareness of space as children use large climbing and balancing equipment. To enjoy Sports Day using small equipment.
Creative Development
To explore sound, colour, texture, form and space to respond in a variety of ways to the five senses, through art, music, dance and imaginative play.
Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
To familiarise children with numbers, rhymes, songs, stories, counting games and activities. To sort, match, order, sequence and count every day objects. To recognise and use numbers up to ten. To begin to write numbers.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
To be aware of their environment and their place in it. To explore and recognise features of living things, objects and events in the natural and man-made world. To observe similarities, differences, patterns and change and be able to talk about their observations and ask questions.
Admissions and fees
The pre-school has a waiting list that runs on a first-come first-served basis. The earliest a child can start pre-school is when they are two years old. Nappy changing facilities are available, but we do request that parents provide changing items such as nappies, wipes etc.
We request that children attend no fewer than two sessions per week.
Pre-school fees are due for payment on the first session attended each month, payable in advance. The cost per session is £6.00.
There will be no refunds for absences or illness, however if you are planning a holiday and you notify pre-school, a retainer fee of £3.00 per session missed must be paid (half the normal session fee). The monthly fee will change depending on the number of sessions held in each calendar month. If fees are not paid for one month then the child's place at pre-school will be lost.
Pre-school requires one month's notice to be given to the Supervisor and/ or Treasurer before withdrawing a child from pre-school. The coming month's fees are displayed on the pre-school notice board. All children have their first session free of charge.
There is a charge of 20p per day towards snack. This is payable weekly, on the first session attended that week.
We are registered to provide free places for three year olds. Funding is available to all three year olds, beginning the term after they become three.

Committee
Our committee makes the main decisions in the running of the pre-school. This is chaired by Mrs Amanda Ockwell, and is made up mostly by parents/carers whose children attend pre-school.
Should you have any ideas, suggestions or complaints please feel welcome to voice these to any of the committee members. The list of current committee members is below.
The pre-school committee aim to meet every term to discuss the running of the pre-school, although in practice they meet more often. These meetings are usually to discuss fundraising issues and plans for the future of the pre-school.
The current committee members are as follows;
President Mrs Joan Smart
Chairperson Mrs Amanda Ockwell
Treasurer Mrs Sue Owen
Secretary Mrs Emma Potts
Members Mrs Sonia Moss
Mrs Jo Bantick
Mrs Kate Franklin
Mr Tim Owen
The main aim of the committee is to maintain the smooth running of the pre-school,to communicate with the staff and make any major decisions about the pre-school.
If you have any questions you would like to put to the committee, or if you would like to join the committee, then please speak to a member of the committee.
Records
Records are kept on the progress of all pre-school children. This is an essential part of the day to day running of the pre-school and parents are welcome to inspect these records at any time, and contribute to these records if they wish.
We operate a key worker system whereby each child is assigned to a particular member of staff who will be involved with recording and monitoring that child's progress. However, parents can speak to any member of staff about their child.
Parent Rota
A parent rota runs on a voluntary basis. We are sure you will find the experience enjoyable and it gives you a chance to participate within pre-school with your child. The rota is displayed within pre-school for you to add your name to.
Illness
We do have some requests for parents. If your child is ill or has any contagious rashes or skin conditions, please do not bring him/her to pre-school. The child will not only feel miserable, but illnesses spread very quickly through pre-school and it is not fair on the other children.
Also, for safety reasons, if your child has pierced ears we request that they only wear stud earrings.
We want your child and you to be happy at pre-school, but sometimes children take a little time to settle in. You are always welcome to stay with your child for as long as you want to, and should you have any worries or questions, please see any staff member and we will do our best to help.
Child Protection
Staff are trained in child protection procedures. The wellbeing of your child and his/her family is of primary importance and should staff have concerns over your child's wellbeing they will usually be discussed with you. However should staff have serious concerns social services will be contacted.
